Objective

To develop a new digital tool aimed at digitising numerous paper forms containing thousands of questions into a single user-friendly interface. The tool is designed to be used by field personnel to gather information from customers, functioning seamlessly both online and offline.

FMG, created by farmers for farmers, has been a cornerstone of rural support in New Zealand for over 115 years. As the leading rural insurer in the country, FMG possesses unparalleled expertise in rural risks and is committed to providing specialised advice, products, and support to rural communities nationwide.

What we've done

1. Paper-to-Digital Conversion: Digitised dozens of paper forms containing extensive questionnaires into a unified digital interface, simplifying data collection and management processes.

2. User Interface Design: Designed an intuitive and user-friendly interface tailored to the needs of field personnel, ensuring ease of use and efficient navigation during data collection activities.

3. Offline Functionality: Implemented offline capabilities within the tool to enable seamless data collection even in areas with limited or no internet connectivity, ensuring uninterrupted workflow for users in remote rural locations.

4. Customisation Features: Incorporated customisation options within the tool to allow users to tailor forms and questionnaires according to specific requirements and preferences, enhancing flexibility and adaptability.

5. Cross-Platform Compatibility: Developed the tool to be compatible across various devices and operating systems, enabling users to access and utilise it on smartphones, tablets, and laptops regardless of their preferred platform.

Creative Process

1. Requirement Analysis: Conducted thorough analysis and understanding of FMG's needs, existing paper-based processes, and user requirements to inform design and development.

2. Prototyping: Created prototypes and mockups to visualise the interface and functionality, allowing stakeholders to provide feedback and make necessary adjustments early in the development process.

3. User Testing: Conducted extensive user testing sessions with field personnel to gather insights and identify usability issues, iteratively refining the tool's design and functionality based on user feedback.

4. Iterative Development: Adopted an iterative development approach, continuously enhancing the tool's features and performance based on user feedback and evolving requirements.

5. Accessibility Considerations: Ensured accessibility features were integrated into the tool to accommodate users with diverse needs and abilities, promoting inclusivity and usability for all users.

Results

The tool has revolutionised data collection processes for field personnel, significantly improving efficiency, accuracy, and convenience. Users reported enhanced productivity and streamlined workflows, resulting in increased customer satisfaction and operational effectiveness. Moreover, the tool's offline functionality proved invaluable in remote rural areas, ensuring uninterrupted data collection activities even in challenging connectivity conditions.

Conclusion

By leveraging cutting-edge technology and a user-centric design approach, we successfully developed a solution to meet the unique needs and challenges of rural New Zealand. The tool not only digitised complex paper-based processes but also empowered field personnel with a versatile and user-friendly solution that enhances their effectiveness and supports FMG's mission of providing specialised support to rural communities.
